Maranatha Christian Academy Softball picked up its first win of the season in dominant fashion on Thursday, shutting out Skyline Conference opponent Legacy Christian Academy 15-0.

The Mustangs were sharp in all phases, highlighted by an impressive performance in the circle from a pair of young pitchers. Eighth grader Jenna Burns got the start and set the tone early, tossing two hitless innings while striking out four. Seventh grader Charlie Gonsior followed with two strong innings of her own, allowing no runs and recording six strikeouts to preserve the shutout.

Offensively, Maranatha delivered a balanced attack with contributions throughout the lineup. Seventh grader Maya Fabian and junior Olivia Alm each collected two hits to lead the way. Senior Lily Mozdin and Alm both added doubles, helping spark the Mustangs’ scoring surge.

Run production came from multiple players, as Ella Nix, Charlie Gonsior, Gracelyn Kersey-Schutta, and Olivia Alm each drove in two runs. In total, nine different players recorded hits in the game, showcasing the team’s depth and offensive consistency.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 1-1 in Skyline Conference play and 1-3 overall on the season. Legacy Christian falls to 0-2 in conference action and 0-2 overall.

Maranatha will look to build on the momentum as they hit the road Friday to take on Holy Family at Lions Park in Victoria. The Fire enter the matchup with a 1-3 record, setting up an evenly matched contest.
