Our Maranatha boys’ swimmers, who are part of the Osseo swim team, competed just before the holiday break at Champlin Park. Although the final score didn’t go in their favor, the meet was filled with standout performances, personal bests, and memorable moments in the pool.
Several swimmers continue to show steady improvement as the season progresses. Joshua Barber, Cesar Fernandez, and Manuel Manueco all dropped time and stepped into new events, highlighting the team’s growth and versatility.
Cesar had an excellent night on the JV side, helping the 200 Medley Relay to a 1st-place finish. He also recorded personal bests in both the 100 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke, continuing a strong trend of improvement. Joshua showed his speed in the 50 Freestyle, taking 1st place in the JV heat, and also challenged himself by swimming the 200 Freestyle for the first time in competition. Manuel made his season debut and delivered strong performances in both the 50 and 100 Freestyle, marking a successful return to competition.
On the varsity side, Mason Krings and Brady Landstad teamed up in the 200 Freestyle Relay and raced to a 1st-place finish, showcasing speed and chemistry. Brady Landstad also had an impressive showing, placing 2nd in both the 100 Butterfly and the 50 Freestyle. Mason capped off a remarkable night by placing 1st in both the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Breaststroke. Already the pool record holder at Champlin Park in the 100 Breast, Mason shattered his own record with a full-second improvement. In a memorable moment, officials removed his old record from the board and sent him home with the record strip as proof of his accomplishment.
Though the meet didn’t result in a team win, the boys left Champlin Park with confidence, momentum, and plenty of highlights that reflect the hard work being put in every day at practice.
