The Maranatha boys representing the Osseo Swim & Dive team continue to make waves this season, turning in standout performances across multiple meets and helping the program reach historic milestones.
Last weekend, Osseo captured first place at the TANO Invitational, defeating six other teams in the process. The victory marked the program’s first invitational win in many years and highlighted just how strong the squad has become.
Several Maranatha athletes delivered exceptional swims at the invite. Brady Landstad turned in an eye-opening performance in the 50 freestyle, dropping a full second from his previous time. Mason Krings had a meet to remember, shattering the Osseo school record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.63, breaking the previous mark of 1:57.08 that had stood since 1996. Mason also claimed meet records in both the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke, cementing his place atop the record books. Cesar Fernandez continued his strong season as well, posting a personal best in the 100 freestyle by nearly two seconds.
The momentum carried into last night’s dual meet against Elk River. Josiah Wiechmann made a successful return to competition in diving after being sidelined with a blown eardrum, placing fourth out of six divers in his first meet back. Josh Barber and Cesar continued their steady improvement, with Cesar dropping an impressive nine seconds in the 200 freestyle. Josh recorded a personal best in the 100 freestyle and raced the 100 backstroke for the first time.
Brady followed up his strong invitational performance with another solid race in the 50 freestyle, finishing second in the event. Mason capped off the night with another record-breaking swim in the 100 butterfly. Although he was narrowly out-touched by just .02 seconds, he re-broke his own school record, lowering it from 51.88 to an outstanding 51.59 in the middle of the season.
The Maranatha-Osseo swimmers will look to keep the momentum going at their next meet on Tuesday, January 20, when they host Anoka in what is expected to be a close, nail-biting dual meet.
