The Mustangs entered the Section 5A Tournament with an overall record of 4-5-6. They faced the Cristo Rey Jesuit Pumas in the quarterfinal round on their home turf at Noble Sports Park. After defeating the Pumas by a score of 2-0 back on September 26, the Mustangs were confident that they could come out on top again and move on to the semifinals. 

Both teams battled during the first half but nobody could put the ball in the back of the net as they went into halftime scoreless. The Mustangs were determined to control the game and score first. They came out fired up to start the second half.

Olivia Lanari had a great shot on goal in the second half to give the Mustangs the lead. Abby Sathre had the assist. The Mustangs didn’t look back on their way to a 1-0 shutout by goalie Kate Wahl.

Maranatha will head out on the road to take on the Breck Mustangs in the semifinals on Wednesday, September 9 at 7:00 pm.
