John Patterson is entering his second year as an assistant coach for the Mustangs. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He also played basketball for the New York Gauchos, one of the most prestigious AAU teams in the country. Following high school, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Stout, where he played basketball and earned a degree in Industrial Technology.
Patterson has trained athletes in multiple sports over the years. He started coaching high school basketball alongside his wife, Faith Johnson Patterson at Minneapolis North High School. While at North, he helped introduce their dominant signature press and other defenses. He also worked with post players on rebounding, individual moves, and shooting. In his role, he also assisted with identifying colleges for athletes and consulting with college coaches on perspective athletes.
Patterson has been named Assistant Coach of the Year multiple times and honored along with his wife in many venues.
